With the harsh winter weather, it can be difficult to plan dates when all you really want to do is curl up in your bed until the sun returns and the temperatures warm up again. While this is one way to wait out the storms, it is not effective in helping you plan winter dates. Yes, it can be romantic to curl up with your partner on the couch with some hot cocoa and spend an evening cuddling, but you might want to look at some other ways to spend your date nights. So, what are some date ideas that don’t require you to trek through snow or rain or face bitter winter winds?
Spend the night in and test out a new recipe that you’ve wanted to try, or experiment with a dish that you both love. Maybe play a variation of the cooking show “Chopped” and come up with an interesting and edible meal from whatever you have in your kitchen. Add a bottle of wine and a fun dessert to share and you have a romantic date night in. Not only do you two get to enjoy a meal together as if you had gone out, but you also get to have fun creating that meal with your partner. Cooking together is also a great bonding tool because you have to work together. You might even find that your partner has kitchen skills that you had never imagined.
Put together a few appetizers and grab some board games to make a fun and relaxing evening in. The two of you can play or you can invite another couple or some friends over to make the games more exciting. A double date night with friends is a great way to forget about the weather outside and if you two are still a new couple, it takes some of the pressure off spending the evening with just each other.
Pop some popcorn, grab a bottle of wine and a movie that interests the two of you and have a simple movie night. Or maybe pick a his favorite movie that you’ve never seen (or even imagined that you would want to see). You can cuddle on the couch together and stay warm while enjoying the movie. A movie night is great because you don’t have to deal with the cost of movie tickets or the chatter of other people in the theater. You can even stop the movie to talk or go back to see something that you missed.
Invite some couples over and have each bring a dessert for the group to try. Brew some coffee and sample each others’ desserts. This is a great way to take the pressure off of a date night alone and you get to meet each others’ friends as well as enjoy some sweet treats.
While nasty winter weather can be a bummer, it can provide a great excuse to try some new indoor date ideas. The cold weather is also a great excuse to get closer to your partner, so take advantage of the opportunity to cuddle up with each other. Don’t be afraid to create your own date nights in. Just because you don’t want to go out doesn’t mean you have to spend your nights alone instead of with each other.
